Fall Mushroom Walk
Sunday, December 2, 10:00 to noon
On Sunday, December 2, from 10:00 to noon, the Redwood Valley Outdoor Education Project will host a Fall Mushroom Workshop and Walk led by local mushroom expert Mark Albert. The public is invited to come learn about the essential role that fungus play in an Oak Woodland ecosystem and meet some of our local mushrooms. Mark usually brings an array of mushrooms to share and participants will have the opportunity to explore the mixed woodlands at the RVOEP to see what mushrooms are up. Beginning mushroom enthusiasts and veterans should find this a stimulating morning. The workshop is free, but donations will benefit the RVOEP. The RVOEP is a community-supported project of the Ukiah Unified School District and provides outdoor environmental education programs to over 2000 students each year. Pre-registration is not required. The RVOEP is located at 8301 Pinecrest Drive in Redwood Valley. Pinecrest Drive begins directly across from the Redwood Valley Elementary School. Call 743-2065 for further information. If the weather is stormy on December 2nd, then we will try again on December 9th.
Spring Hike with a Naturalist
Saturday, May 3, 10:00 AM to noon, at the RVOEP
Springtime means beautiful wildflowers and a symphony of sounds as migrating birds find their way back to their favorite nesting area. Marisela de Santa Anna will guide us in a walk that will highlight wildflowers and native plants as well as birds. Marisela is a well-known local naturalist with a broad background of knowledge about Mendocino County flora and fauna. Her walks are always fun and informative.
