Spring 2004
Link to Previous Newsletters: This winter our Educational Team, Helen, Adrienne, and Amy, have been busy visiting classrooms with special programs. Over 1300 students have learned about our Oak Woodlands, explored the structure and function of skulls, been introduced to some of our local birds and their importance in our ecosystems, or learned to “live lightly on our earth” by reducing, reusing, and recycling their trash. Our spring field trip programs begin in February, weather permitting! We’ve added a new field trip program called “Flight School” that will involve students in many bird-related activities including flight, migration, and nesting. Students will also participate in a special bird survey that will compare the type and diversity of the birds found in the forest with the more open meadow area at the RVOEP. State Science Standards require that students become familiar with the scientific process, so this will tie right in. Thanks to a $9,000 grant from the J. R. Long Foundation, a $1000 donation from Wal-Mart, and the money raising efforts of the South Ukiah Rotary Club we are again able to cover transportation costs for UUSD students. Expect to receive a new RVOEP brochure soon. We hope you will share it with a friend and help us expand our membership base. The Advisory Board has decided to replace a couple of our newsletters with other types of mailings such as postcards and our new brochure. We hope to see you at one of our spring workshops! Visit the contact page to schedule a field trip, volunteer, or to make an inquiry. We are in need of the following items:
If you can donate any of these items please call Helen at 485-0690.
