VOLUME 6 ISSUE 3 - SPRING 2003 Spotlight || What's Happening || Wish List
Link to Previous Newsletters: Educational Program More that 800 students were involved in our educational programs last fall. To learn more about our activities and our grade level programs visit our Educational Program. For further information about the educational program, to volunteer, or to schedule a field trip visit rvoep.org or contact: Helen Menasian at Redwood Valley School, 485-0690 (2-4pm), 743-2065 (home), Email: hmenasian@pacific.net. As usual lots is happening at the RVOEP. The stream restoration project got off to a good start in December with the removal of invasive exotic plants such as vinca and blackberries down by the river. On February 25, Patty Moore's fifth grade class from Oak Manor planted over 100 trees and other plants in the area that had been cleared. We will be working hard to keep the persistent exotics from returning by removing the shoots that come up regularly. We want to acknowledge generous donations from both the Wells Fargo Foundation and Rainbow Construction. These funds go towards our transportation expenses in providing bus transportation for students to participate in field trips to the RVOEP. Many thanks to these local businesses which support our efforts. If you would like to sponsor a bus trip at approximately $85-90 per trip, call Jennifer at 485-7935. Please remember that we have to raise all of the funds for our operation and must pay the school district for the bus trips. With motherhood as her new project, our Instructional Aide Amy Aikman will be taking an extended leave of absence. A new aide is being hired, and Helen can use the help of docents who can help out with the program in the mornings Tuesday-Friday. If you are able to help Helen in any way please call her at 485-0690 or 743-2065. She would love to talk with you and give you an orientation to the program. Notice the information elsewhere in this issue about the North Coast Striders run which will be held in April. The RVOEP is excited about this new dimension to our activities. Don't forget to visit our web site at www.rvoep.org to find out the latest news and see photographs of our program. We hope to see you at some of the upcoming workshops. Have you seen our beautiful T-shirts with our embroidered logo? They are again available for $25 each. Please call Jennifer at 485-7935 if you are interested in having one. North Coast Striders 8 km Run The North Coast Striders, a local running group, has asked to use the RVOEP for a benefit 8 km run sometime in April. Two weekends have been proposed - April 12-13 or April 26-27; the date had not been decided by the time this newsletter went to press. You can call Neil Davis at 485-5794 for the date after March 1, 2003 or watch for announcements in the local newspaper. Sounds like a fun event! We are in need of the following items:
